Copenhagen

First of all I do not want to turn my blog into a commentary about global warming but I couldn’t resist making a comment or two before and after Copenhagen and state in my previous blog what I thought the outcome was likely to be. Now we know the final outcome was not spectacular; a mere piece of paper generated by a few countries which had the semblance of an agreement without any legal authority so to speak which is what I sort of expected.

Now I think that the event was much more fruitful than it appeared simply because there was apparently a desire to reach an agreement evidenced by the overtime that was spent by all participants trying to get an agreement. In other words there appeared to be a lot of motivation to achieve something. I saw crowds of participants rushing to and fro on T V maybe just looking for the loo but I thought their intent to attend those meetings was real.  It’s really not surprising that China didn’t have the courage to pull the shutters up but then look at the way their country is run. It would appear most people in China don’t want a repressive authority to run their country so those in power are afraid to make themselves, as they see it, vulnerable to outside influences because they just might lose control. India, I believe, was also shy about making a commitment but then without much money in the kitty but the prospect of making heaps in the future who could blame them. America appeared to be generous to degree with their $100,000,000 offer but that was a nonsense at this time in reality since they are broke and China owns most of their bonds.

My feeling is that all countries of the world now have a deeper feeling of the problem of global warming than ever before and they will find in their conscience that it cannot be ignored. Next time they meet it will be a big change of attitude and a sensible outcome will be achieved I am certain about that. After all the clock is ticking and we don’t have much time left.
